Baritone Justin P, a native of Peculiar, Missouri, has appeared in opera, music theater, and concert performances throughout the United States.

He recently appeared in the world premiere of Lee Hoiby's opera, "This is the Rill Speaking" with the composer in attendance.

His professional performance credits include Giovanni in Verdi’s Il corsaro and the Jailer in Tosca with the Sarasota Opera, Dr. Grenvil in La Traviata and Antonio in Le nozze di Figaro at Opera North. For the Lyric Opera of Kansas City, he has sung the roles of the Fifth Jew in Salome, Sciarrone in Tosca and The Second Armored Man in Die He has performed as Vicomte Cascada in The Merry Widow and Doctor Spinelloccio in Gianni Schicchi for Des Moines Metro Opera, where he made his debut singing the dual roles of Angelotti and Sciarrone.

He has been a member of the young artist programs of several companies, including the Santa Fe Opera, Sarasota Opera Studio Program, Opera North, and Des Moines Metro Opera.

His most recent apprenticeship included an appearance with The Santa Fe Opera, performing the high-stepping Master of Ceremonies in Cendrillon. His previous apprenticeship with the company saw him performing Lesbo in Handel’s Agrippina, hailed by Opera News as “a wonderful study of sycophancy”.

Petersen recently finished his M.M. in Opera at the University of Kansas. While there, he performed the roles of Escamillo in La tragedie de Carmen, Gianni Schicchi, Kecal in The Bartered Bride and The Pirate King in The Pirates of Penzance. In addition he performed the role of Emile de Becque in South Pacific to critical acclaim, praised as “stellar”, and “filled with emotion” by the Lawrence-Journal World.

Among Mr. Petersen’s accomplishments are participating as a finalist in the Opera Azuriales Competition et Concert des Soloistes in Saint-Jean Cap Ferrat, France. He is also a winner of the Kansas City District Metropolitan Opera National Council Auditions, and the Berta Eisberg Scholarship Award of Mu Phi Epsilon.

He has appeared as a soloist and section leader with Saint John's United Methodist Church in Kansas City, Missouri, and Old Paramus Reformed Church in Ridgewood, New Jersey.

Mr. P currently resides in Boston, Massachusetts.
