About Antoinette

I taught school for fourteen years in grades K-8 and in some cases all subject matter. I, especially, enjoy teaching reading and phonics. I have a BA in Education plus all the necessary classes for a master's degree in education with the exception of a thesis. My education was at Illinois State University. I have been a certified teacher in the public school systems in Illinois, Washington, and Alaska.
I have superior recommendations from every school district in which I taught. It is a delight to see the progress in my students due to my teaching techniques. I also try to review and expand lessons the student is presented in his regular schooling to make sure that the student clearly understands the material. I am very patient and try to find the exact way an individual student learns. Making a student proud of his or her ability to learn new ideas is always important.

More On Antoinette's Subjects

elementary (k-6th)

I was a teacher in public elementary schools for 14 years. I especially enjoy teaching primary and middle grades. Some children require more time on a subject than the time available in school. I can review all classroom work and make sure that the student understands the assignments before proceeding to a new concept or idea. Each assignment is a learning step that relates to future concepts. It is important that the student learns in a step by step manner. The difference in several hours of individual attention a week makes a huge difference in some child's understanding and ability to move forward and to make significant progress in school. I will also ascertain if the child has missed certain concepts in any subject in years past and refresh and make aware of problems that are beneficial for learning future lessons. For example, if a child needs assistance with phonics even though they are in the fourth grade, we will review as necessary. A little extra time with a student at an early age will make all the difference in his/her grades for the remainder of the school years. I will work with your child K-6th grade and you will see results!

cooking

I am an excellent cook of down-home American food. From the time I was 15 years old,I worked at my uncle's small restaurant that specialized in classic American dinners where everything was made from scratch. I leaned to cook from my uncle and continued to enjoy cooking for my family and friends. I also catered for many years. I especially enjoy making tasty soups. If I try a recipe, I usually add my own touch changing or adding ingredients. I encourage students learn from each attempt at cooking and that everything does not have to be exact. Dare to experiment!
