Hello French Horn students!
I'm Dan, a Music Performance Major at the University of Minnesota (school of music). I play piano and have been playing French Horn for nearly a decade and i have learned from some of the best horn players in the midwest. I am regularly a student of Mike Gast (principle Horn in the Minnesota Symphony Orchestra), as well as Caroline Lemen (former principle horn of the Houstan Symphony), Greg Flint, and Bill Capps. I am currently in the Symphony Orchestra here at the University as well as the Wind Ensemble. I am also the Marion D and Chester E Groth Scholar (music scholarship). I was awarded 4 smaller monetary scholarships directly out of high school, and will audition for more in the future. I have been the one of the top horns here at the University and I am still only a sophomore. Despite my age i am an experienced player and mentor in my field.
I teach French Horn Lessons and am always looking for students; in horn lessons i focus on playing technique and the embraucheur, and i incorporate popular repertoire and etudes.
In lessons for ear-training I often focus on the fundamentals of music and love to include the piano and voice in almost everything. I teach students how to sight sing on scale degrees, as well as how to accompany themselves on piano in a very simple manner. I focus a great deal on interval and chordal recognition, as well as pitch recognition for more advanced students. I also love to throw in some basic music theory information (it often helps students grasp the idea of a piece). I am a fairly tough teacher but can "go easy" upon request, i like to give my students a challenge while still allowing them to have fun and be interested in their voice/instrument and music in general.
I can also teach basic music lessons which include: how to read music, how to harmonize and just any other musical information. My schedule is somewhat hectic but i am usually pretty flexible about it.
