I am a professional freelance editor, proofreader, copywriter, and Russian-to-English translator. I have been involved in tutoring and teaching activities for 20 years.
I have a B.A. in Russian from Carleton College, a certificate in Russian from Moscow State University im. Lomonosova, an M.A. in Buddhist Studies from Naropa University, and a certificate in Teaching English as a Foreign Language from One World Training. I have taught English as a Foreign Language in the US and in Russia. I have also coached figure skating and tennis and tutored Spanish, French, writing, geometry, and Russian.
I have taught and tutored people ranging in age from four to sixty-five, and I truly believe that we are never too young or old to learn, although our approach and attitude to education may change over the years. As students, we are responsible for our learning experiences. The best tutor in the world cannot pass a test for us. However, a good tutor can inspire our love for a subject, infuse excitement into a learning situation, and help us reach farther than we thought was possible. I aim to be that kind of tutor. I enjoy teaching one-on-one or in very small groups because it is important to me to form a friendly, comfortable professional relationship with each student so that I can tailor the learning experience to the needs of that individual.
