About Jacob

I am a Pennsylvania state-certified Spanish teacher and graduate of the University of Pennsylvania's Graduate School of Education (Master's in Secondary Education program). I have tutored Spanish, as well as various other core academic disciplines, for the last five years. I also worked as a full-time Spanish teacher at a Greater Philadelphia public high school for two years.
I have actively pursued opportunities to study and teach Spanish since the beginning of my undergraduate education at Emory University. In the spring of 2004, I was inducted into the Phi Beta Kappa National Honor Society and was awarded the Emory University Department of Spanish and Portuguese annual leadership award. As a student teacher at Central High School (2004-2005), in conjunction with a Master's program (secondary education) at the University of Pennsylvania, I taught native and non-native Spanish speakers at various language levels. At Abington Senior High School (2005-2007), I continued to garner insights into instructing students of diverse backgrounds, learning styles, and linguistic needs.
Since the summer of 2007, I have tutored children and adults of all ages and levels in Spanish, utilizing activities and multimedia-enhanced presentations that I have personally developed in recent years. I also have been tutoring students in mathematics (pre-algebra, algebra I, and algebra II), history (American and world), and English / literature. Through my experience as a teacher and tutor, I have learned how to create engaging activities, which challenge students to think critically about the course material.
