I am a veteran teacher with over 15 years experience in special education, early childhood and adult students. I hold a Masters Degree in Teaching and a BS degree in Special Education and Early Childhood Education. My experience includes classroom lead teacher, multi-district teacher consultant and Director of Education for a local college.

As an advocate for education at all levels, I have a personal commitment to reaching a student at their cognitive level and helping to teach and coach them to their desired academic level. This includes adult learners.

  Greetings Potential Student, My name is Ms. Catena and I have had many years experience as an end-user of various computer softwares. I am able to navigate through keyboards and touch-screen applications and I am proficient in creating Word documents, mail merges including labels and envelopes, editing, internet access and navigation, uploading, downloading, highlighting, font and paragraph, changing, saving, coping, toolbars, graphs and many other aspects of general documentation preparation. I have produced lecture and in-service workbooks for large audience presentations, brochures, business cards, post cards and banners. I can also put together a PowerPoint presentation. I can navigating through Excel however, my knowledge in setting up a spreadsheet is limited. For the person that is completely new to computers and the internet, I would be the perfect tutor to get you started in basic knowledge on general operations.

  I am a Special Education teacher with 15 years experience in dealing with students with special needs. It is my belief that all individuals have the capacity to learn and we don't all learn the same way. I am well versed on the research on developmental and intellectual stages of development and learning but I firmly believe that you must assess where a student is currently, reach them at that level and them bring them forward to the desired level of learning. I work from a huge educational "tool-box" and am not shy about exploring many strategies of teaching until I find the one that best suits your learning style. I am flexible, I have patience, I am reflective and I am creative. I have worked in the Michigan school districts as a classroom teacher and a teacher consultant. Often called on by schools, parents and the community to advocate on behalf of the student to be certain that the student is receiving all of the accommodations and modifications that they are entitled to by law. Though all of my teaching experience was done in Michigan, the Special Education law is Federal and very little changes from state to state, so that knowledge works as well here in Missouri as it does in Michigan.
