My name is Kyle S and I am currently student-teaching French at Boise High School. This is my final semester before I receive my degree in French/Secondary Education from BSU and my teaching certification in December 2009. Through my schooling and teaching experiences, I have been well-trained in the French language, theories in language acquisition, and foreign language pedagogy. I have had many native French speakers compliment me on my accent, both here in the US and when I spent five weeks in France two summers ago. I am still developing my teaching style, but I find my beliefs in language acquisition theory to be aligned to the practices of TPR (Total Physical Response) and TPRS (Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling). In other words, I believe that language should be taught in a natural immersion, and nurturing environment where vocabulary and grammar are presented in context to the end that the language is made comprehensible and meaningful. Thus, instead of rote memorization and verb drills, I try to engage the student's natural ability to acquire the language through authentic communicative activities and interactions. More traditional verb conjugation, grammar rules, and pronunciation will be addressed, but only when the student is ready.
