About Erika

I am an experienced, dynamic and academically-trained language teacher seeking an opportunity to help students become proficient in a second language. As a language instructor with over 10 years of experience teaching ESOL/EFL as well as Portuguese and Spanish to teenagers and college students both in the USA and abroad, I have acquired expertise in second language acquisition theories and strategies and developed a passion to help learners achieve their linguistic goals.

I secured a Bachelor’s degree in English/ TEFL concentration from the Federal University of Minas Gerais (UFMG), Brazil. I have also secured a Master’s in History from the University of Mississippi, where I completed 6 credit hours in the TESOL program and worked as a Portuguese instructor for two and a half years. Currently I am completing my MA thesis in Biblical Literature at Oral Roberts University, where I have expanded my linguistic skills in the study of Biblical Hebrew and Greek, and where I served as the Teaching Assistant to the Professor of Biblical Greek for one full year.

In sum, the extensive TEFL/TESL training I received both in Brazil and the United States, in addition to my diversified education in foreign languages and cultural-historical studies have afforded me the opportunity to become an excellent language teacher.

My main areas of experience/expertise are: English for Speakers of Other Languages, English grammar, Portuguese, Spanish, Literatures, Biblical Greek, and Biblical Studies. I have taught these subjects both at the Elementary, High-School and College Levels.

If these are some areas that you or your child might need help with, don’t hesitate to give me a call. I look forward to the opportunity of serving you!

Sincerely,
Erika

More On Erika's Subjects

  • Bible studies

I am currently pursuing a Master of Arts in Biblical Literature - Judaic Christian Concentration at Oral Roberts University. I have successfully completed all my coursework and am now working on my Thesis research project, which focuses on the Jewish roots of Jesus' teachings on humility in the Gospel of Luke. The two and a half years that I have devoted to the study of the Bible and Biblical scholarship at ORU have prepared me not only for the future goal of pursuing a PhD in the field, but also to begin helping other students learn, grow and excell in their own studies right now. Besides keeping a 4.0 GPA at ORU, I also served as a Teaching Assistant of Greek for 1 year, thus having an opportunity to sharpen my knowledge and understanding of the New Testament as well as the Biblical language. I look forward to the opportunity to help you grow in your study of the Bible and Greek!

  • ESL/ESOL

I have taught ESL/ESOL/EFL for about 9 years both at public and private institutions, as well as on a one-on-one private basis. Workshop: Content-based Second Language Instruction, Composition grading, and OPI and Oral Interviews grading, University of Mississippi, Fall 2003. “EFL Testing & Assessment” Workshop, FALE-UFMG, Brazil, December 1999. • Greek

I am a graduate student in the Department of Theology and Missions at Oral Roberts University. At ORU I have had the opportunity to study both Biblical Hebrew and Greek. As a language teacher by profession, I excelled in my studies of the Biblical languages, especially Greek, thus quickly moving to the position of Teaching Assistant. During the time in which I served as T.A. to the Professor of New Testament Sudies, I had the opportunity to plan and prepare weekly vocabulary quizzes; correct and grade translation and grammar homework assignments; go over the homework with the students in class weekly; besides offering tutoring sessions and exam review classes, and teaching a full class once a month. Therefore, I am highly qualified to help you excell in your study of Biblical Greek, and I look forward to the opportunity to do so!
