I have been the Itinerant Teacher of the Deaf for Honolulu District on O`ahu for 15 years. I have a bachelor's degree in Deaf Education (all level) from Texas Christian University (TCU), a Master's degree in Biology from TCU, and a Master's degree in Special Education (Vision) from Northern Colorado University. I am certified to teach Deaf and blind students of any age. I have also taught Anatomy and Physiology at Kaua`i Community College on the island of Kaua`i. I've been teaching for 35 years and enjoy tutoring. I prefer math and sciences, but have also tutored other subjects.
In my experience, I find it best to get to know the student and tailor the tutoring sessions to match her/his learning style(s). I prefer variety in lessons, but I do prefer to stick with more left-brain activities. Field trips, labs, and other hands-on activities seriously enhance learning, and I prefer to incorporate those kinds of experiences in my lessons.
I enjoy all ages, but teaching at the middle school level tends to be a strength for me. Elementary is also much fun!
