Currently, I am a full-time matriculating Undergraduate English student at Hunter College, in their Creative Writing program with a minor in Psychology. Once I attain B.A. in Creative Writing, I will receive my Substitute Teacher's License/Certification and then, further my education in a Graduate program in either Education, Special Education or Psychology at Hunter or NYU.
In June of 2006, I received my Associate in Arts degree with Honors in Writing and Literature from the Borough of Manhattan Community College in New York City. One of my scholarly achievements at this institution was becoming a member of the Phi Theta Kappa Society in October 2004; also, for the spring and fall semesters of 2003 including the spring semester of 2005, I made the BMCC’s Dean's List. Moreover, The National Dean's List recognized me for my scholastic achievements for the year of 2004 to 2005. In addition, in 2005, I published two works; one was an on-line publication and the other was for an independent magazine.
The above mentioned has benefited me professionally. For example, I have worked with every grade level in education from kindergarten to the collegiate level as well as with Autistic children from the ages of five to eighteen, including adults over twenty-one. Furthermore, it has allowed me the opportunity to be a CUNY teacher's assistant in Remedial English classes as well as mentor and tutor students for three semesters on academic probation at the Borough of Manhattan Community College. And in 2007, I received my Board of Education Teacher Assistant Certification.
Additionally, my experience includes creating Lesson Plans, writing Individualized Education Plans or Programs and conducting Discrete Trials. Also, instructing several disciplines, such as English: reading comprehension, and writing and literature; math: basic arithmetic; science and history via newspapers, periodicals and Scholastic News articles (distributed by the BOE). Other activities have been teaching computer literacy and physical education.
Professional, I am an A.B.A. Therapist (a teacher working with Autistic children) in a private facility in NYC. I have been working with this populace for 6-7 years between the ages from 4-21, including adults as well. Moreover, I have also taught ice hockey and karate to children and adults as well as complete a one-year internship with a grammar school as a assistant physical education teacher.
Thank you for your time. I can provide my teacher's certification, degree, and recommendations upon request.
Sincerely,
Nilo
