About Ritchard

Although I am devoted to my fine art, tools of choice oils, I am a dedicated, customer-focused creative professional with proven interpersonal, communications and multitasking skills.

I was born in New York City, raised speaking both English and Spanish which enabled me as an adult to take on another three languages, thereby making me fluent in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, and some German. These latter three were acquired living and working in Berlin, Hamburg, and Paris during eight years, and having visited Brazil for many winters.

As a fine artist, taught at acclaimed institutions High School of Art & Design and The School of Visual Arts, I've shared acquired skills by tutoring portrait painting in oils to art students, from beginner to intermediate levels. We cover everything from capturing a subject's likeness, understanding light and shadow, color, mood, the virtues of quick brushwork, working into a wet surface. I also encourage understanding oil mediums, palettes of oils and canvas foundation including proper stretching.

Having created my own website showcasing my paintings, I've have been very much involved in the development of sites for my peers as well as for others, using strong Photoshop and HTML tools.

I have also been a Mac computer consultant for owners feeling intimidated by simple tasks, software related or otherwise, configurations, or one of many, many things their computer is capable of that they still can't fathom.

I have been a Mac computer consultant for owners feeling intimidated by simple tasks, software related or otherwise, configurations, or one of many, many things their computer is capable of that they still can't fathom. I have been using Mac computers since their OS 8 platform was launched some ten years ago, have marveled since they took the Unix based OS X plunge, and as a fine artist, graphic artist and web-designer, it has changed my life. I found the Mac much easier to understand, starting out with the Hard-drive appearing on the desktop with every model purchased. I have often tried helping the owners of Windows platform desktops and laptops, and consider pathways and the many more steps required to arrive at a similar task with their competitor quite cumbersome. Most applications, including Microsoft's own Office tools, work splendidly on a Mac. I'm not out to convince Windows users to switch to a Mac, but make myself available to Mac users who might be struggling with simple or sophisticated tasks on what I consider to be a true PC - Personal Computer.

As a fine artist, taught at acclaimed institutions High School of Art & Design and School of Visual Arts here in NYC, I share acquired skills by tutoring portrait painting in oils to art students, from beginner to intermediate levels. We cover everything from capturing a subject's likeness, understanding light and shadow, color, mood, the virtues of quick brushwork, working into a wet surface. I also encourage understanding oil mediums, palettes of oils and canvas foundation including proper stretching. Special note: on my fifteenth year of painting academic realism (subjects and storytelling), the paint took over as I discovered freedom within my own abstraction, substituting figures with strokes or a combination of strokes, exploring the linen I faced with a preferable honesty, painting from the heart and guts. Abstract painting is a very personal thing that I often compare to writing after having learned how to draw letters. It’s the acquired confidence of the hand just doing its thing without thought, trusting in a moment of spontaneity. So yes, I’m primarily a painter more involved in abstract research though I average at least one head & shoulder portrait annually. For those of you likewise interested in the ways of abstractions, I am available for a type of coaching leaning more on theory than technique. By the same token, there are principles shared between my two passions – abstractions and portraits. Please inquire.

  • web design

Having created my own website showcasing my paintings, I've have been very much involved in the development of sites for my peers as well as for others, using strong Photoshop and HTML tools. I also offer tutoring skills for others who might either want to begin the art of creating web pages for the Internet, understanding the world of HTML, or for those who might just want to update/maintain an existing website. Courses require the use of a code-writing tool such as Adobe's Dreamweaver or GoLive, Photoshop and a word editor such as Microsoft's Word. The world of the Web is exciting and intimidating, but once you begin to see results, you'll make a commitment to work, fine tune and use your results. Please bear in mind that I do not offer guidance with animated software such as Flash.
