More On Peace's Subjects

  • Chinese

I was a Rotary Youth Exchange Student to Taichung, Taiwan in the year 2003 to 2004 and gained proficiency in Mandarin Chinese. Thereafter, I took the SAT II Chinese language test and got a 770 or 780. Soon after, I began tutoring Chinese to many students, including a large group of Korean-Americans in the Bethany United Methodist Church of Wayne, NJ as they were due to visit China for a mission trip. I accompanied them to China in the summer of 2005, working as a translator for the group and eventually staying at the city of Yanji in China for two whole months, teaching English to Chaoxianju minority schoolteachers. Once I started college at Macalester, I took up Intermediate Chinese as it was the highest-level Chinese offered from the school at the time and got an A and dropped out after the first semester. The year after I took the advanced level Chinese class, got an A again, and dropped out, fulfilling the language requirement of my school. I am confident of my abilities to teach Introductory and Intermediate Mandarin Chinese.

  • Korean

I'm a native Korean speaker and I have taught the Korean language at the Korean language schools (Han-gul Hak-Kyo) in various churches growing up. I have also had the opportunity to teach Korean to Korean-Cubans in Cuba in the summer of 2006 and have had the privilege of tutoring Korean adoptees. I teach conversational Korean, SAT Korean language test, and Korean literature.
