About Alan

I have thirty plus years experience in photography starting as a photojournalist in the Caribbean area and then operating a photo and digital imaging service bureau. Some examples of assignments were: the 1976 and 1980 Summer Olympics, World Title boxing matches, Caribbean baseball and soccer, world leaders and other dignitaries.

In 2005 I moved to Dallas and worked in a camera store, earned my MBA, and became a Photo Editor for a custom publishing house. Unfortunately, it closed last year. So now, I am ready to teach photography.

More On Alan's Subjects

  • photography

I have a Bachelors degree in Photography from Syracuse University followed by thirty years experience as a professional photojournalist (I also did studio and portraiture), digital fine art printer (gicleƩ),photo lab and digital imaging bureau operator, camera salesperson, and photo editor. I also have an MBA in Marketing from Colorado Technical University. But enough about me. This is what I can do for someone interested in learning photography. I will explain light and color, film or digital, and how to compose. Then I will tell you that your camera - whether it be a pin-hole, camera phone, point-and-shoot, pro-sumer or professional DSLR - is nothing more than a tool that is used to capture what you see. This will determine how much money you want to invest in equipment. And then I'll show you how to use what you bought (or borrowed or inherited). Then, if you have multi lenses or one lens with zoom capabilities, you will learn how to see (differences) with changing focal lengths. Then I'll be at your side, when you shoot, to answer questions and offer suggestions. After that we'll look at your take and critique what you've photographed. If you need help in understanding image editing or how to set up your personal work flow and cataloging, then I'll be there, also. Let's see if you can capture the "decisive moment".
