elementary (k-6th)
I love working with children, having volunteered for many years at various educational outreach programs. More specifically, I have 5 years' volunteer experience working with 3rd through 6th graders at a summer school camp for gifted underprivileged youth. I have also volunteered for 3 years at a vacation bible school for 1st and 2nd graders.
These experiences (and the fact that I still nurture a very vivid imagination and enjoy swings) have helped me connect with, understand and guide elementary school kids, not to mention I understand the material quite well.
general computer
I have spent many hours troubleshooting and repairing hardware and software issues in most Windows operating systems and some Mac and Unix systems. I am familiar with Microsoft Office, and am quite competent at finding information on the Internet. I have extensive experience programming in a variety of languages and am quick to learn more.
study skills
I was a straight A student throughout elementary and high schools, and scored very well on a number of standardized tests. As such, I have excellent experience studying and taking tests, and am quite capable of conveying these skills to students of all types. I am equally comfortable as a visual and an auditory learner, and understand how students of either leaning could go about reinforcing material they have learned in class.
religion
I've grown up in Christian schools, first an Episcopal elementary school and then a Catholic (Jesuit) high school. Throughout my entire elementary and high school careers, I attended a religion class. In high school especially, I have had extensive experience with the Bible (mostly the New Testament) and with the philosophical, moral and technical intricacies of the Catholic catechism. I also have some experience with Judaism and the Torah, though mostly from the perspective of a Catholic religion class. Additionally, I have been exposed to some of the philosophies, if not the technical details, of a number of East Asian religions, including Hinduism, Buddhism, Daoism, Shintoism and Confucianism. I am also quite comfortable with Roman, Greek, Norse and Egyptian mythologies and some religious rites.
Bible studies

discrete math
I have experience in many of the areas of discrete math: graph theory and logic (a CS class called Discrete Structures), set theory (helping my friend who took the class and general exposure through physics classes), number theory (a number of math classes and a CS class on encryption), algorithms, complexity theory and automata, digital signal processing, and statistics (a two-quarter statistical mechanics class). While I by no means am an expert in all fields associated with the label "discrete math," I have enough experience with most of the sub-fields to be able to help with most problems that might arise should someone be interested in a discrete math tutor.
differential equations
I have taken three separate differential equations classes: one at UNO aimed at students who have just completed multivariable calculus, one designed for more advanced students which included material on chaos, and a partial differential equations class which assumed intimate knowledge of techniques for solving ordinary differential equations. While earning my Physics degree, I was required to solve differential equations routinely, especially in Quantum Mechanics, Quantum Field Theory and General Relativity, as these classes all spent a great deal of time solving the Schroedinger equation, a second-order PDE.
Greek
I took four years of Greek at Jesuit High School and then another year at Stanford University. I have had extensive experience with both the language, including a number of various dialects, and the body of Greek literature.
I have translated from the Odyssey, the Iliad, Aristophanes' Lysistrata and the Clouds, Theophrastus, Aesop, Plato, Xenophon, Euripides' Medea, Sappho, Pindar, Anacreon, Bacchylides, Alcaeus, Alcman, Euclid and Archimedes.
C++
While the bulk of my programming experience is in C, I have taken two classes aimed at highlighting multiple inheritance and other features specific to C++. My general experience as a programmer has prepared me well: I have taken numerous theory classes and low-level, memory-management classes in C, as well as project classes centered around group work in Java and C++. I am well-versed in many generic and some specific programming techniques, and am quite familiar with the syntax of C, C++, Java and Python.
