About Deborah

I have taught my entire adult life. I have a master's degree in education from the State University of New York plus an additional twenty-four graduate hours above my master's degree. Those hours include graduate level courses for both teaching reading and English. I am certified to teach in both Florida and New York.

Presently, I do part time editing for Dr. David Walker's books (Daystar Publishing). For the last ten years I have worked as an adjunct instructor at Pensacola Junior College, teaching developmental reading, English grammar, and writing.

For three years I tutored one-on-one with the Learning Enhancement Program. The emphasis of this program was cognitive development and reading.

Previous teaching experience includes elementary school, GED classes, and teaching English to the foreign born.

My teaching styles includes explaining the "whys" (if there are "whys") and lots of practice. I like to start with what the student knows and then build from that foundation. Students know more than they think and are always enheartened when they are shown that truth. All students can learn and improve.

More On Deborah's Subjects

  • Bible studies

I have been a born again Baptist Christian since 1959 and have read my Bible from cover to cover 35 times. The New Testament alone, I've read an additional 30 times. I have written several multi-level Vacation Bible School programs for children and taught Sunday school for 25+ years. I have a website with biblical articles for adults. I am a teacher by profession and am capable of teaching Bible studies to either children or adults. The Bible is my very favorite book and I love teaching others about its wonders.

  • elementary (k-6th)

I am an experienced elementary school teacher, presently certified to teach in both Florida and New York. I have a master's degree in elementary education and have taught my entire adult life - 35+ years. I am a patient teacher who builds upon what the student already knows. I also have an additional eighteen graduate hours in teaching reading, which is the foundation learning in school. I know that I can help your child with his educational needs.

  • phonics

Besides having a master's degree in education, I have eighteen graduate hours of courses in teaching reading in the elementary school. Those courses included hours of learning about phonics. For three years I tutored one-on-one for the Learning Enhancement Program. One part of the program was reading with direct emphasis on phonics. I actually still have all my materials from that program. Even older readers can greatly benefit from phonics instruction because often a reading problem stems from a lack of basic skills in that area. Phonics is one of my favorite subjects to teach. And for the last ten years I have taught developmental reading at Pensacola Junior College. I know I can help your student.
