Have been a professional guitarist for over 45 years. I play: rock, blues, jazz, folk, pop, metal, rhythm and blues, and adult contemporary. I play strictly by ear and have my own style. I can play lead, rhythm, and bass guitar proficiently. I have my own studio in my home and record songs I have written. I do all the guitar parts on the songs as well as the vocals and mix the recordings. I have a pending contract in Nashville to record my first commercial CD in September.
study skills
Taught a college course for many years called, "Strategies" that included study skills (how to read for comprehension, how to effectively take a test, when to study and where, how long to study, how to effectively take notes and avoid rote notetaking, the proper frame of mind to have to study effectively, how to organize notes, how to prepare and when for a test, how not to proscrastinate, and how to find meaning and interest in any subject).
theatre
I did a lot of acting in plays in high school and some in college. My parents were thespians and my mother was the clapper lady on television and both of them did various other commercials and two movies, "Wayne's World" and "Frankie and Johnny." I love the theatre almost as much as I love music. Nearly all of the plays I acted in I was generally cast as the villain. For example in the Desperate Hours I was the killer who takes the family hostage
I did a religious play once in college called, "Revolt at the Portals" where five people from differing backgrounds have died and are awaiting their fate. I played the corrupt businessman who does not get into heaven.
voice (music)
Have been a professional singer for over forty-five years fronting numerous bands and performing at many live venues in California and Colorado. Some of the places I have performed at are: County Fairs in California, Winter Park Ski Resort, Winter Park, Colorado, Grizzly Rose in Denver, Colorado, private weddings and parties, Teenage Fair Hollywood California. Next month I will be going to Nashville to record my first commercial CD with a major producer.
ESL/ESOL
For years I taught English to a diverse group of students. In teaching, I came across many students from different countries wha had a hard time with Engligh. In many classes I was relegated to teaching conversational English. However, I taught basic English skills first before moving into conversational English. Many times I would stay after class to tutor foreign students. I received great satisfaction from teaching those students English.
songwriting
Have been songwriting for over thirty years having written to date over 200 songs. Am in the process of going to Nashville to record a master CD with my producer, Neal James of Neal James Productions in September Also record executives are waiting to hear my CD and expect to be signed by a major label before year's end. Music is my absolute passion and I have been writing and singing for over forty-five years.
business
Had my own consulting company in the early 80s providing business consulting to small contractors. Was a credit manager in commercial credit for various construction companies in California and Colorado for many years. Taught business on the college level for many years in Colorado at the following colleges: Parks College, Westwood College, Everest College, College America, and Cambridge College.
public speaking
Twenty years of lecturing experience and public speaking on various levels in front of various groups. Learned that in order to be an effective speaker you must have common ground with your audience and speak not in monotone but vary your delivery. Eye contact is critical and always show an interest in the subject matter no matter how many times you have presented it. Never rush a speech but create a good rhythm in your delivery. Always speak on the level of the audience. Create visual aids, charts, diagrams, photos,brief videos, etc... of your topic rather than a strictly verbal presentation. Use signposts to stress important points in your speech. Smile, relax and be well rehearsed before speaking.
