I am available to tutor weekday evenings after 7:00. I prefer to teach middle school students (in math - up through Algebra I), though I will also tutor 4th and 5th graders. My focus is on making sure your child understands the problem, not just arrives at the correct answer. If students don't thoroughly understand HOW they got the correct answer, then the correct answer doesn't do them any good. I have many of my own educational tools and games from when I taught intervention which I will use with your child if they are needed.
My rates are $35 for an hour of tutoring, with an additional charge of $5 if we will be meeting more than 20 miles from my home (140 Merritt St, Ft Worth).
If you would like for me to meet with your child on the weekend, I am available after 12 on both Saturday and Sunday. Weekend tutoring rates are $40 an hour, with a $5 charge if we will be meeting more than 20 miles from my home.
My Teaching Experience:
2 years teaching public school in Colorado
- 6 months teaching 8th grade American History
- 1 year teaching 7th grade math
- 1 year teaching 6-8th grade intervention classes
I am currently tutoring other students, so I highly encourage you to contact me with which days and times you'd like to meet so that I can see if my schedule will allow it. I am very flexible as to extending sessions by 30 minutes or an hour when needed (and agreed upon by the parent) to help the student who is struggling but is close to mastery.
Education:
- Bachelors degree in History/Social Studies Education
- Teacher's Certificate in Secondary (6-12) Math, Social Studies, and English
- Currently pursuing Master in the Art of Teaching with focus on 6-8th Mathematics from Marygrove College - will be finished in the summer of 2011
