I am a graduate of the University of Washington. I hold a Master's Degree in Elementary Education and Professional Certification for the state of Washington. Professionally, I stay current with WA State EALRs, best practices, and current educational research. With over 6 years of full-time teaching experience in a variety of subjects and grades (K-6), both public and private settings, I have a diverse background in supporting students. I have experience with all types of learners: struggling students, gifted, students on IEPs, and ELL students. My teaching style is to assess where students are, set goals with students (and parents), and then plan how we will get there. I'm calm, firm, encouraging, and always positive. I believe all students have potential. All students can learn; it's up to the educator to find how to plan and guide students.   Students learning English are a wonderful addition to a classroom. My culminating project for my master's degree was centered around how teachers can plan and organize learning environments to increase the literacy skills of English Language Learners. My comprehensive guide which was grounded in research, was presented to my colleagues and well received. Within my own classroom I have consistently used several instructional strategies and monitoring that have significantly improved the performance of my ELL students. My experience and knowledge in this area is what I can offer in tutoring a student who needs support as they gain English. Tutoring support can be given in spelling, writing, math, reading, vocabulary, phonics, science, and social studies.
