My name is Stephanie L, and I am currently a second grade teacher. I have been an educator for 13 years and have worked with students ages 4-14 in several academic areas. I worked for two years as a full-inclusion teacher, and have worked with a variety of diverse learners. I try to promote a positive self esteem as well as a love of learning when working with students. I feel it is essential not only to encourage a student's academic success, but to motivate the student in a way that he or she strives for personal success. If a student doesn't feel as such, I have not done my job properly. During high school and college, I worked as an Academic Coach for an educational center that allowed me to learn a variety of approaches to tutoring and individual learning. It takes a village to raise a child, and I sincerely look forward to assisting in this endeavor.

  I've played the clarinet for 19 years and have played in a variety of areas. I've played competitively, auditioning for several high school, college, and honor bands. I've played in several district and state bands during my high school and college experiences and was invited to audition for the National Symphony Orchestra (an honor few experience in their lifetime). I'm used to a competitive musical environment, but feel that it is the student's true passion for the instrument that allows genuine and authentic success.

I have taught in mainstream classrooms as well as self-contained classrooms and have worked with a variety of educational and developmental levels. Under No Child Left Behind, I am considered "highly qualified" among federal law, and have taken additional reading assessments/courses for this highly coveted certification. I believe in differentiating instruction according to the specific needs of each student and do my best to accomplish this in the classroom. I encourage intrinsic motivation to learn, and do this to create lifelong learners. I am highly upbeat and strongly encourage an engaging learning environment that the student takes pride in. I believe that a student who has a say in their own learning sets the stage to become a lifelong learner.
