EXPERTISE
Writing is my passion, and teaching is my pleasure — and I bring this love to bear in all of my teaching experiences, whether the work is with beginning writers, first year high school students or with the varying levels of writing experiences each student brought to the college writing classes I have taught at UC Berkeley.
I have worked in other communities as well — as a volunteer writing tutor for incoming 1st year students at Berkeley High School; as an ESL tutor for English Second Language Adults; and as an editor/writer of an independent local press.
I can therefore teach, edit, tutor or serve as a "second eye" on various material before submission.
I am also the mom of a grown son with learning disabilities who I saw through High School as well as a 4-year college.
IN EVERY situation, with every challenge,
I encourage laughter and humor at every step. Relaxation and ease bring more benefit to learning that anything else I know, and I can visibly see that gains in writing and reading come much more easily and can be much more consistently held if the instruction is through such open doors.
From beginning to advanced students, the ideas are the same: Grammar is not boring. Learning is not boring. Writing well is not boring. Critical thinking and understanding textual devices are both enormously rewarding and downright essential to any success, whether in high school, college, or in the business world.
