About Albert

Hello,

My name is Albert and I am a rising Sophomore at New York University in the college of Arts and Science. I am majoring in Neural Science and minoring in Chemistry and Philosophy through the pre-medicine track.

First, let me say my belief. I believe that self-realization is just as important as doing well in academics. I will push my students in doing problems, but more so, I will talked to them in the hopes that they can see the beauty in the subjects that I teach. Once the dots are connected, everything will seem much easier.

I have been moving around every year of my high school life so I know how to adapt to different situations/environments. I am very passionate towards academics, as it is the foundation to our society.

I believe that people should be well balanced. And so, I don't just study, I also love to play sports. I have been doing Tae Kwon Do since I was 3. On and off of course. I've been a state champion in Minnesota, Michigan and Massachusetts. I also played Rugby; I served as co-president and team coordinator for two years in high school. I enjoy a wide variety of music, including jazz, pop, rap, classical. And of course I was online TV sometimes. My two favorites are The Office and How I Met Your Mother. :)

Coming (recently) from Indiana to New York City, I consider myself very successful so far as a 1st year in NY. I am in many clubs, including Biology Society, Tae Kwon Do, Freshmen Advisory Board, Rubin Tutoring, etc. I am currently doing a research internship at NYU medical center in the cardio-pulmonary department.

My most proud moment at NYU is being accepted as a NYU orientation leader. This is a program that picked 24 students out of 250 applicants (9 newcomers, which includes myself). The selection was based on responsibility, ability to communicate clearly, grades, street smartness, social skills, punctuality, kindness and sincerity. To put it in few words, the 24 of us represent NYU. We would run summer orientation for Freshmen who are interested in coming to New York University. We run shows, programs, workshops, registration, residential duty, etc. After this program was over, (aside from being sad) I realized how much I love working with fellow students.

We are the next generation. In order to succeed, we must build ourselves to be stronger.

In regards to tutoring position, here are some information:

- I have been tutoring since 9th grade in high school.
- high school GPA: 3.75
- NYU GPA: 3.31
- AP tests:
> Calculus BC: 4
> Biology: 5
- SAT score: 1410/1600. 2080/2400. >> Math: 800
- SAT II: math II C: 800, Biology: 700, Korean: 790
- Awards: Student of the month for Calculus BC, English Honors, High Honor Roll, NYU Balanced Man Competition finalist. Just to name a few

Like I said before, I am just like every other student; I like to play sports, listen to music, and do some volunteer work.

I can make studying a wonderful experience. And aside from being a tutor, I am also a friend and a mentor for any student's future.

Thanks!

More On Albert's Subjects

  • bodybuilding

In 9th grade, I was a scrawny kid. Easily under 100 lbs. Then I decided it was time to get fit. When I first started lifting, I only thought about getting big by pushing weights around. But the longer I became experienced and the more I did research, I found out that it's much more than that. Bodybuilding is about health first. The lifting and nutrition go hand in hand when building muscles. I have tried many different cycles, and played many different sports so I know how to tailor different regiment to different people. I also became a vegetarian during Junior year of high school so I know "both worlds" of nutrition, so I can also help those who do not eat meat as well as those who do. Body building starts with the mind, self-belief, then science. I can coach both levels.

  • ESL/ESOL

The biggest key point in of a ESL teacher should be sympathy. Imagine being stuck in a totally different world in which people speak in languages you don't understand. Those who have been through the terrifying transition will be able to fully understand the student's want to learn and the frustration that may come with the change. I, too, was once a non-English speaker. I came over to the States when I was in 2nd grade. You may think it was too young to remember, but I remember clearly. It's like something covering your mouth when you want to speak your mind. I can help students slowly but efficiently learn, not only the technicality of the English language, but also help them master conversational techniques.

  • public speaking

I have moved around every year of my high school life. The most difficult thing was to stand out among my classmates since I had no "back ups." Through these hard times, I began to develop a strong voice and a way to stand with my head high. I have also taken a speech class in high school and have received an "A." The way I see it, you have to stand up for yourself in life because no one else, but you, can be your voice. Without self-expression, we are nothing but walking flesh. To have the ability to speak your mind also helps you develop the skill to listen. I can help the student with this. I am recently from Indiana. Now, coming from a small town to one of the largest cities in the world, I knew I had to be strong. I have made many conference speeches, went on many successful interviews and have made many friends. Having the ability to publicly speak is good for many things: Career, social life and self-satisfaction. I have been recently chosen as one of NYU's 24 Orientation Leaders. Of the 250 applicants, I was chosen by my responsibility, punctuality, social skills, street-smartness, ability to adapt, etc. This job asks the leaders to go out and bond with the incoming freshmen class. We are the faces of NYU; with our talks, presentations, skits, workshops, outspokenness, we attract the thousands of students who are interested to go to NYU, one of the top dream schools in the world. Public speaking isn't about knowing the "technical" things (feet 3" apart, etc.), it's about self-belief and want to improve. I can help with that.

  • swimming

I love the water. I think the key to swimming is to be comfortable with it. I know I can be a good swimming instructor for two reasons: 1. I've gone camping with my family for 6 summers and I've swam through strong river currents. 2. I've been swimming ever since I was a kid, won many competitions up through high school, in which I was on varsity swimming at Andover, MA in which our team was undefeated and went to state finals. Swimming, to me, is just another way of walking. I feel so free and so proud to be able to tread in water easily. I can help you do the same. I can help you do anything you want underwater (not just swimming). I will also help you prepare yourself for the basic physical fitness that you'll need in order to better yourself as a swimmer. I look forward to meeting you!
