I have a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree from the College for Creative Studies in Detroit, my major area of study was illustration but I had a strong design class load as well. I graduated with High Honors and have been a working Illustrator, Graphic Designer and Art Director in advertising for the last 18 years. I began the first 11 years of my career as an illustrator and Design Director at Colorforms Inc, an art and design studio which closed its doors in May 2002, a large proportion of my projects were conventional illustration (paint on board) but I soon jumped into the Macintosh digital realm as it began to develop and learned Adobe Illustrator from the ground up.
In June 2002 I began employment at BBDO Detroit and remained there for nearly 5 years as Senior Graphic Designer, Jeep lead. I was responsible for maintaining the Jeep brand requirements and look throughout the vehicle model year catalogs, national print and event advertising. As an illustrator at heart I designed much artwork into my pieces and executed what I could, the rest were farmed out to local illustrators for their distinctive illustration style.
I have been completely digital for 15+ years with Adobe Illustrator being my tool of choice and can honestly describe myself as an expert. I am also fluent in InDesign and Photoshop and have a working knowledge of Flash and Dreamweaver coupled with extensive experience and comprehension of a myriad of technical details concerning fonts, analyzing and correcting file issues, preparation of documents for pre-press and printing, knowledge of general design guidelines concerning media application, vector illustration best practices, etc.
While I am new to tutoring I am also a laid back individual who is completely accustomed to critique through working in a very competitive environment where my client and/or other colleagues might sit behind me and give direction, or just watch while I work. I do not ruffle easily and I consider myself a very nice and helpful person, but also one who is dedicated to quality and excellence. I will do my level best to teach you how to work with precision and confidence.
