Portuguese As a fluent speaker of Spanish, French, and Italian, I was always curious about Portuguese, a similar language. I began listening to the music and learning songs in Portuguese. I then got more interested in Brasilian culture and started to reading about it. I have studied Portuguese independently for years. After marrying a man from Brasil, I have improved my Portuguese greatly. I speak it everyday now and have travelled to Brasil, staying up to six weeks at a time with my in-laws who do not speak English. At this point, I have many Brasilian friends and have become a part of the Brasilian community. My proudest accomplishment is that I have been mistaken for a native Portuguese speaker by numerous Brasilians. (Text in Portuguese) Como uma falante de espanhol, de francês, e de italiano, eu era sempre curiosa sobre o português, uma língua similar. Eu comecei a escutar as músicas em português. Eu então virei mais interessada na cultura brasileira e comecei a ler sobre ela. Eu estudei o português independentemente durante anos. Após ter casado um brasileiro, eu melhorei muito. Eu falo português diáriamente agora e viajei a Brasil, ficando até seis semanas com meus cunhados que não falam inglês. Neste momento, eu tenho muitos amigos brasileiros e virei uma parte da comunidade brasileira. Minha realização mais orgulhosa é que eu fui equivocado para uma brasileira muitas vezes por uns brasileiros.
