About Stephanie:

I am an experienced tutor and teacher specializing in English language and literature, but also quite comfortable teaching history and math up to about a 10th grade level. I graduated 4th in my class in high school (out of 434 students) and was a member of the National Honor Society, the quiz bowl team, and the Academic Club (of which I was president). I graduated college magna cum laude and as a member of Phi Beta Kappa. I was a double major in English and History, and graduated with honors in both. I recently earned my Master of Fine Arts degree in Creative Writing from the University of Arizona. I am passionate about tutoring because it gives me a chance to work with students one-on-one, tailoring my lessons to each student's individual needs. Before I moved from Arizona I was part of a month-long tutoring project in a South Tucson middle school, and it was one of the most rewarding experiences of my life. I also worked as a writing and reading tutor throughout college. I currently teach college writing two days a week, and I love it. I believe in setting high expectations for students--case studies have shown that high expectations usually lead to high results. I challenge them to work outside their comfort zones; likewise, I have high expectations for myself as an instructor, and I go above and beyond to come up with lessons that students can really connect with. In my spare time I like to read and write, mostly nonfiction; I also enjoy running and listening to all kinds of music.
