Hi. My name is Aaron and I'm a tutor in Memphis. I specialize in ESL, but I am also proficient in mainstream language arts and computers. I have taught for 5 years now, including 3 years in Poland and 1 in South Korea. I've taught students of all ages, from 11 to 61.

I try my best to employ what is called an inductive method of teaching, where meaning is constructed rather than simply delivered. It leads to deeper and more meaningful understanding of the content. In this method, students are expected to actively question the material and pay attention to learning strategies (which I teach explicitly), in order to track progress and identify misunderstanding when it happens.

Homework is important, but it should not always be simple repetition. Homework should reinforce the lesson and extend beyond its confines. I believe that homework should benefit the student and not the teacher.

My degree is in Theatre. I am currently perusing my Master's degree in Teaching from the University of Memphis.

I have a BA in Comprehensive Theatre Studies. I am well-versed in theatre production as well as theatre history. I have served as professional stage manager at a national theatre festival.

ESL/ESOL

I've taught ESL for five years. I've passed the Praxis II exam in this content area and I'm progressing towards my Master's degree in this field. I've studied phonics, phonetics, reading strategies, vocabulary development, grammar, syntax, and even style. I understand the influence of the first language and I know specific strategies to overcome that influence.
