About Rebecca

I was born to teach! I love watching the light bulbs go on when a student "gets it" whatever "it" may be. I realized years ago that my variety of life experience, apart from my education, makes me a good teacher.

You may wonder how I can teach such a variety of things and do any of them well but you must keep in mind that I am not a youngster. I've been living a significant while and have learned much that I can share.

More On Rebecca's Subjects

elementary (k-6th)

I have a BA in Education. When I was young I wanted to make more money than teachers did so I left education and worked in high tech. Now I"m more interested in watching the light that goes on when children learn. I've worked with Girl Scouts as a trainer and a leader. I prefer working with children in an education environment one-on-one rather than in a classroom. Whatever your challenges, we can work through them together.

general computer

I've worked with computers in one way or another since 1967. I taught for Oracle Corp for 5.5 years. I taught for University of Phoenix for 6 years in the BA and MBA computer and communications programs. I know all versions of windows and some Mac. I know all Office programs in all versions plus Quicken, Quick books, Visio and many other programs. I also design and develop programs and web sites

general music

I first learned to sing at the knee of my Godmother and sang my first public solo at around 5. I learned to read music in 4th grade when I played orchestra bells - sort of like a glockenspiel only it lays down. I play several instruments (flute, guitar, some piano, and recorder) but most of my “general music” knowledge was gained in high school choir. Our director taught us music theory and used the choir members to demonstrate his techniques at a conference of music teachers. I learned about intervals and chord structure from him as well as how to activate tone memory.

HTML

I taught HTML at Oracle for 5 plus years and at University of Phoenix for 6 years. In addition I am a web site designer and developer so I have used HTML for some 15 years.

web design

I have worked on web sites for 15+ years. I have taught web design for University of Phoenix in their technology area.

flute

I have played flute since I was 10 - 50 years. I took lessons for many years as a child and taught flute when I was in high school. I still play today.
