drawing
I have a Bachelor of Arts from UC Berkeley and have been a working artist since receiving my undergraduate degree. I am very familiar with drawing as a foundation for other more complex genres or expressions in art practice. I consider myself an excellent rendering artist, and have also had a short spell as an oil painter, once selling a painting for $1800. I have changed mediums of interest in my own practice to performance and photography but I can still assist any emerging artist in the principles of drawing, which I still love.
My tutoring can focus on rendering, light and form, figure, perspective..I credit the drawing show "Let's Draw" as being one of the fundamental public television tutors that I had as a kid. I have experience teaching drawing principles in summer art camps. I could also take someone to do landscape assignments outdoors or on a gallery or museum trip to understand and appreciate what other artists the student might have an interest in are doing.
photography
I was first interested in photography as a child because my father is an amazing Black and White landscape photographer. My parents had a medical photography service and I grew up around the business. I went on to aspire to follow in my dad's unfinished footsteps and be a famous photographer. The famous part, I am still working on, however I have had my photography published on magazine covers and featured in editorial articles in newspapers and online.
I have an art degree from UC Berkeley with an emphasis in photomedia. Photomedia includes photography and digital media, so I am well versed in film and digital photography and using the computer to store and edit images for print and web.
I have owned and operated my own photography business since 2000, have shot weddings and big 18th bday parties professionally, but my love is in shooting portraits, documenting human subjects, and in doing fashion photography. I have an excellent eye for style, color and composition. I can introduce the student to all of the basics and artistic elements of good photography practice.
