About Rachel

Hi, my name is Rachel. I am 23 years young. Originally from Los Angeles, I moved to San Diego for college about 5 years ago. I graduated last June from UC San Diego. I have my Bachelor of Arts in Psychology, with minors in Law & Society, and History. My focus in high school was math and science. I excelled in calculus, and if you can do calculus, you can do anything. I am also strong in areas of chemistry and physics. Some may argue that a person can only be good either at math or english. I can prove that statement wrong. I always got good grades for my papers because I am a grammar freak. My writings are creative and articulate. Aside from getting straight As in high school, my true passion lies within music. I started playing when I was 4 years old, giving my almost 20 years experience. I have five years experience teaching piano to beginners and intermediate students. I currently play piano in a local San Diego band called LikeWize. I love entertaining others and seeing them relate to our music. I have the patience it takes to tutor anyone. I know this because I have two miniature pinchers. Although I love my dogs to death, they can be monsters underneath their cute brown eyes. I learned that if I could train them to obey their master (me), and keep them in control on a day to day basis, then I can train - I mean tutor - any personality. I am fun and energetic, and ready to help you in any way I can. ; )

More On Rachel's Subjects

  • general music

I can teach general music theory, as far as reading notes and playing by ear. I started playing piano when I was 4 years old (I'm 23 now). I was classically trained by Yolanda J. Fresnoza, a very well-established teacher in the Los Angeles area. She is the director of her own music school, Rowland Heights School of Music. I was the grand finale performer of every annual recital after I turned 10. I also won 3rd place at the Southern Youth Music Festival in 1994 out of about 50 painists in my level bracket. When I was in 8th grade I started teaching piano to my younger cousins. Slowly, my piano school grew to include neighbors and family friends as well. I continued to teach throughout high school and I brought in my students in my own piano teacher's recitals. I had to stop teaching when I moved to San Diego for college. I also currently play piano in a local band called Likewize. I can also teach children with disabilities. I recently graduated from UCSD with a bachelors degree in Psychology. With that, I am well educated in developmental disabilities and I possess the patience it takes to help the children meet their treatment goals through music therapy. I have also taught piano to my nephew who has autism.
