About Pamela

If you’re motivated and ready to learn in an easy and fun setting, then give me a try!

Both in the classroom and on the ice I like to make a comfortable easy leaning environment. I am both a visual and vocal teacher allowing students to learn in the way that suits them best. I am extremely organized, punctual and responsible. Many students feel more comfortable dealing with a tutor who is still in school or closer to their age, since they are more in tune with life as a student. I can provide a productive means of learning while still having tons of fun. I am incredibly patient, and can work to any speed of learning necessary.

I have recently completed my Bachelor's Degree from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute in Troy, NY in Mathematics with a minor in Psychology. In the fall I will begin my PhD studies in Applied Mathematics. I have taken four years of college courses focusing in math but extending to science, engineering and humanities I graduated with a 3.97 GPA, Suma Cum Laude (with high honors).

I have been tutoring in k-12 and AP subjects for the past 8 years. I have excelled in high school, completing nine AP courses (Calculus AB, Calculus BC, Chemistry, Physics B, Statistics, English Literature & Composition, European History, US History, Psychology). I’ve worked previously at a tutoring company servicing over 20 local school districts for over 2 years. My experience extends to SAT Math Preparation, Study Skills, Regents Review, and most science and math based subjects.

Along with working toward my degree in Mathematics, I share my passion with many of the students at RPI by working as a Teaching Assistant. In this position, I conduct four classes a week by myself in Calculus for our future engineers. I am experienced in fabricating quizzes and exams as well as teaching the basic skills needed to succeed in any technical field.

Growing up I fell in love with figure skating and have since then taken any opportunity to share that love as well. I’ve achieved my Gold Medal in Moves in the Field, or technical skating, completing my Senior MITF test. I have also reached a Pre-Gold Ice Dancing level and a Juvenile Freestyle level. I have skated on synchronized skating teams for 8 years. Throughout high school, I coached figure skating for both children and adults. I conducted group lessons as well as private lessons. My experience ranges from basic skills classes to United States Figure Skating Association skating tests. Also, I was a cheerleader for 5 years and have experience in cheerleading and some gymnastics as well.

I feel it is very important to have a chance for one-on-one help on a subject with which a student may struggle. The personal attention is the key to success. I have been with Wyzant for about two years now and I am experienced with the structure of the company.

I hope you’re interested and I can’t wait to hear from you!

PLEASE REFER TO THE INFORMATION BELOW FOR MY POLICIES:

Lesson Cancellations:
- Canceling a lesson earlier than 24 hours before the lesson’s scheduled time will result in no penalty.
- Canceling a lesson within 24 hours of the lesson will result in a charge of half the lesson time.
- Canceling a lesson when I am already at the lesson or en route to the lesson will result in a charge of the whole lesson time.
- If students are late and I was not informed ahead of time, the lesson will be charged from the scheduled start time.

Wyzant Emails:
- Sometimes I do not receive emails notifying me that I have messages waiting for me at Wyzant. I cannot always check my account, so please assume that it will take as little as an hour and could take up to 24 hours for your message to reach me. So if there is something important you wish to speak to me about, such as a lesson cancellation or an emergency, please call.

Driving:
- I understand that some students have working parents which makes it difficult to bring the child to tutor with me.
- I am willing to travel to most local libraries within a 15 mile radius of Troy.
- I do not tutor in private homes.

I understand there are always unforeseen circumstances and thus always exceptions to every rule. Please do not hesitate to ask me any questions about the above policies or anything else I may be able to help you with. I want to make tutoring as enjoyable and easy as possible for you and your child and am willing to work with you to find something that works!

  • Great tutor for college level calculus

Pamela was wonderful to work with. My son was struggling with college level calculus and now feels more confident with his skills. She has provided him with many of the calculus concepts he will need to continue with his engineering degree.

  • Great Tutor!

We were very happy with the help Pamela provided to our daughter in Chemistry and Math. Pamela was able to translate the material into language Abby could grasp, understand and remember. Abby always felt positive about the tutoring experience and her confidence in these subjects increased. Furthermore, it was great for Abby to have a positive female role model in these traditionally male-dominated fields. Abby is looking forward to working with Pamela next year!

  • Great Tutor

Pam was an excellent tutor for my son. He was having a very hard time with chemistry, practically failing the first three quarters of the school year....however, once he started getting help from Pan he improved enough to pass the last quarter and even passed the Regents. Thanks you Pam for your patience, expertise, flexibility and dedication. You truly made a difference for my son.

Pamela is very knowledgeable about calculus and a wonderful tutor for my daughter. She is very thorough in her explanations and has great command over the subject. I highly recommend her as a tutor!

  • THE BEST!!

Pamela was wonderful! I never met someone with so much passion for chemistry. She was positive, smart, fun, and easy to work with. My son felt at complete ease with her and totally understood her way of teaching. They clicked! He was hesitant to get a tutor, but now he's hooked. She built his confidence, was very patient, and seemed to enjoy every minute of her time tutoring. She's a natural! We should have more teachers like her out in the world! Thank you, WyzAnt!

  • skating

I have been coaching figure skating for the past 8 years. I have skated as an individual figure skater in free style and moves in the field. I have passed my Juvenile Free Skate Test as well as achieved my Gold Medal for my Senior Moves in the Field Test. I am also an ice dancer and have completed my Silver dances. I am currently working on completing my Pre-Gold and Gold level dances. I have worked with Olympic coaches for most of my life and have acquired many of their skills as far as coaching. I was on three synchronized skating teams over my life time and have competed in local, regional and national competitions, placing 7th in the Novice division, one of the most difficult divisions at the time. Throughout high school my summers were spent training in Lake Placid at the site of the '32 and '80 winter Olympics at the Olympic Training Center. I have coached individuals of all levels. I have coached numerous children who were on the ice for the very first time. I have also helped out at birthday parties since while the birthday girl or boy may be comfortable on the ice, many guests are not accustomed for skating. I have coached students who were working on the basic skills test set as well as those who were gearing up for USFSA tests. I have coached adult figure skating sessions as well for those who are learning later in life the joy of figure skating. I am able to coach individuals of all ages, semi-private lessons or groups sessions. I am member of the United States Figure Skating Association and both the Rye Figure Skating Club (Rye, NY) and the Yonkers Figure Skating Club (Yonkers, NY). I have my coaching insurance up to date as well.
