The subject I would be the most helpful in tutoring is music. I've played the piano for 11 years, and the clarinet for 10. I've also dabbled with the trumpet, flute, oboe and saxophone. I studied music at Northern Illinois University, and I also took music classes in high school.
I've had a few truly excellent music teachers throughout my life, and they've taught me some really helpful tricks when it comes to playing, reading music, listening to music, etc. I would love to be able to pass that on to anyone who's interested.
English was my favorite school subject throughout my education. I've read hundreds of books, written numerous papers and essays, and I'm currently working in a library, which is greatly expanding my literary background.
During high school, German was one of my favorite classes due to one of the best teachers I've ever had. I went to Germany in June 2006, and even though I don't still take German, my brother and sisters and I talk in German to each other all the time (especially around our mom because she doesn't know the language!).
I've never officially tutored anyone, but I help my 13 year old cousin with her homework all the time; I've given after school music lessons at a local junior high while I was in high school; working at a library, I help kids with their homework every day; I also help adults find information on the Internet or in books or even there's something general they need to know. Also at work, I check the grammar in our newsletter.
I think my teaching style will be pretty informal, because learning isn't supposed to be formal. Learning is something everyone does all the time, and I would like to create the most relaxed atmosphere I can to ensure that the student retains as much as he or she can.
I'm a fairly knowledgeable person, and I would love to pass on all that I know to other people. |
