Hello!
My students call me Mrs. Myers (or Mrs. M.), but since this isn't really a classroom atmosphere, you can just call me Stacy. I have been teaching seventh grade Language Arts for the past seven years. Every time I tell someone I teach middle school students, that person's nose shrivels up in disgust. But between you and me, I think elementary school kids are obnoxious, and high school kids are either way too full of themselves or way too serious. That's why I love teaching middle school kids. I love how they tell you exactly what they're thinking, and how they think they're all that, at least until a cute guy or girl walks by and they get all red in the face!
I graduated from the Universtiy of Vermont in 1999 and graduated from Lesley University in 2005. Yep, I'm old! I may have cracked 30 this past year, but don't let the grey hairs fool you. I probably listen to the same music and watch the same shows as you (anyone see The Hills last week?).
In terms of my teaching stlye, I would best describe my classroom as organized chaos. I like to have a lot of things going on at once. It keeps my students (and me) from getting bored. I have always felt that my classroom is a place where students feel comfortable expressing their opinions and saying what is on their minds. A lot of the work we do revolves around things that are important to my students. We talk a lot about relationships, conflict, peer pressure, etc. during our lessons. I believe it's the best way to get my students interested, engaged, and invested in what we are learning. Sure, we have to deal with annoying standardized tests and grammar lessons, but I do my best to make those lessons interesting and relevant in some way to my students. And of course, a sense of humor is essential when dealing with 12 and 13 year olds!
