About
Sangam: |
Hi! My name is Sangam. I am currently a freshman at Georgetown University. I graduated valedictorian from Bishop McCort High School in Johnstown, PA.
Over the past five years I have had various tutoring experiences. I began tutoring the summer prior to my freshman year in high school. I tutored English to slum children in New Delhi, India. I continued with this work the following summer. This was a challenging job as I had to communicate with the children in Hindi to teach them English. Also, the conditions in which we had to work were not a conducive environment for studying; however, with patience, I was able to help these students learn basic English. In my junior and senior years, I continued with tutoring. I tutored Algebra 1 to eight graders. Working with theses students, I realized how important basic math skills are for young students. Before they can learn more difficult subjects such as Geometry, Algebra 2, or Trigonometry, they need to have the basic skills so that they can build upon a strong math foundation. I helped these students to build a foundation in pre-algebra concepts before moving forward with Algebra 1. This year I have continued with my tutoring by working at the Program for Academic and Leadership Skills. At this program, I tutored math to inner city disadvantaged youth. Over the past four months, I have seen the girls' math skills drastically improve as again I enforced the basics before moving on to harder concepts.
Not only have I had a long standing interest in tutoring, I am passionate about math as a subject; currently, I am pursing a math minor at Georgetown University. In high school, I took five math courses: Geometry, Algebra 2 and Trigonometry, Pre-Calculus, AP Calculus AB, and AP Calculus BC. Also, in the summer before my senior year, I took Statistics with Explanatory Data Analysis at Georgetown University. In my senior year, I became a national finalist for the Young Epidemiology Scholars in which I used advanced statistical analysis for my research work.
Given my prior tutoring experiences, and my interest in mathematics, I would be a great tutor for your student. I would like a tutoring job of 5-10 hours a week. My goal is to teach your student basic math skills so that they may have a strong math foundation, which will help them not only in future math classes but also the sciences. If you are looking for a dedicated tutor, I am the one for your student!
