More On LaQueta's Subjects

elementary (k-6th)

I am starting courses this summer (2009)in Mercer University's Master in Teaching program. Upon completion, I will be an Elementary School teacher. I received my Bachelor’s degree in Journalism & Communications from Hampton University in May 2003. Additionally, I have successfully passed the GACE Early Childhood I & II tests and exempted from the GACE Basic Skills test. Growing up, I have had an enduring love for education and learning that has extended into adulthood. I believe that is because I had wonderful teachers early on. They instilled a solid foundation for my life and I would like to have that same impact on others. I’ve always felt that giving back to our younger generation is of absolute importance. It is for this reason that I have been involved with numerous organizations such as Hands on Atlanta, Girl Scouts, my church youth group, and most recently Big Brothers Big Sisters. In my search for a more fulfilling career, I was reminded of the times when I felt I’ve done the most good. It was my experiences working with children. I am patient, concerned and willing to go the extra mile to ensure a student's success. I have tutored students with phonics, reading comprehension, spelling and math. Please let me know if you need any additional information.

clarinet

I have been playing the clarinet since 4th grade (over 15 years ago). I am currently an active member of the Gwinnett Community Band. I am a former member of the Atlanta Concert Band. In high school and college, I served as section leader, a role that allowed me to guide and assist newer members of the group. I participated in regional band contests and auditions, where individual performance is assessed. I can help students prepare for recitals and upcoming performances. I enjoy playing as it is a great escape from the stresses of life. I want all musicians to play to their greatest ability. Practice makes perfect and "hard" passages can always be broken down into smaller, more manageable phrases. I have accumulated several practice manuals and have access to other material through my band. I am comfortable tutoring beginners and intermediate players. I am patient and can relate to the student's frustrations. I've been there! Please let me know if you need any additional information.
