About Ramona

I have always had a natural ability to teach and to reach students of all ages. This started when I took responsibility for my younger brother when I was a child. I gravitate towards helping others learn areas in which I have more knowledge than they. I view teaching as helping another find their own way to the answers--teaching them to reason it out. My specialty is in Writing and English. I have a great deal of patience and a quiet nature.

I have a BA in English from Heidelberg College and a Juris Doctorate from Case Western Reserve University. I grew up in Shaker Heights, Ohio and recently returned home after a seven year absence.

More On Ramona's Subjects

  • study skills

I was an average student for many years. Frustrated with studying for tests and not receiving high grades, I knew that I had to change something. I went over my tests with my teachers and discovered that, while I had thought I knew or understood the subject matter, I did not have the same level of understanding as the students receiving the highest grades. I knew that I had to change something that I was doing. The key is obtaining a deep familiarity with a subject not just repeating the material from memory. It is knowing it so well that you are able to draw conclusions from what has been given to create new thoughts--your own insights into an area. This comes from approaching studying in a systematic manner. It requires discipline and a drive to see yourself excel. After implementing a system that worked for me, my grades soared. I later discovered that the study method that I thought I had come up with was the same one used by all straight A students. I can train anyone to properly study and see results. I enjoy watching students' faces as they learn, not just the material, but their own potential.
