I was a nanny for five years; during those five years I taught the youngest child to read and the oldest child to spell 'hard' words through breaking down pronunciation. To this day, six years later the two children excel in school and the oldest child still uses the pronunciation breakdown even though he is an 4.0 student.
I have a lot of computer education; I took many computer classes in High School and College. I have a certificate of knowledge in Digital Media which means I know photo manipulation, video editing, movie making and other computer skills. After completing this certification I moved on to community college; I earned an Associate of Arts and Sciences with an overall GPA of 3.5. I then transferred to the University of Washington and continued my education. At this moment in time I am not attending school because I have not lived in Arizona long enough to earn residency. In August 2009, I will resume school and complete my Bachelor of Arts and Sciences.
My teaching methods vary from subject to subject; all tutoring methods will be based on student's learning ability. During initial communication I will ask questions to get a better understanding of the student's need(s); after determining their strengths and weaknesses, I will give them an idea of my assessment to make sure I actually understand their need(s). Then I will create one to two page lessons for each subject and/or computer program to help the student become more competent. I will work to make the tutoring sessions fun, rewarding, effective and worthwhile.
Last year I helped a High School Senior get homework assignments organized, prioritize and complete graduation portfolio, helped with writing assignments (i.e. brain stormed writing assignment themes, proofreading, paper style, MLA, APA etc...) and helped the student keep up with college applications, we also talked alternative ideas for college and worked on keeping school activities and assignments in order of priority. She is now attending the local community college where she only has 1.25 years left to complete an Associates Degree then transfer to the four year University of her choice.
I love working with students of all ages and I believe that I have a lot to offer each young person I work with. I hope that you will find my knowledge and capabilities an asset to your education.
I will make sure that I am ready to help the student with any subject that pertains to my knowledge through research and study so that I can be the best asset to your education.
Thank you!
