I believe we only learn well when we love to learn. As a result, it's my first goal to teach you the fun side of whatever it is you're trying to master, even if it's something seemingly boring like a standardized test. Even the most dry subjects have something in them to relish in, and once you grasp that, learning the rest comes far easier.
I am a Ph.D. student in the History of Science and Mathematics at the CUNY Graduate Center. I love my field because it is broad-based and I get to study math and science as well as the discipline of history. My background is in the humanities but I have a real talent for and interest in the sciences.
I have worked for five years as an independent tutor and, at one time, for Kaplan Test Prep & Admissions. I have tutored students to success in American History, Global History, Geometry, Algebra, Trigonometry, and on many standardized tests: specifically, I have tutored for the ISEE, SSAT, SHSAT, SAT, ACT, GRE, GMAT, and LSAT. I have worked with students from 5th through 12th grade and adults in their 40s who needed to re-learn math in order to take a standardized test and go back to school. I have taught students with learning disabilities and students at the top of their class who need a little extra on their SAT score. I love teaching and I love helping people achieve goals they never thought they could.
It's clear to me that anybody can learn; they just need the right teacher. My greatest skill as a teacher is that I am well-rounded enough to find a context which you understand and bring whatever it is you need to learn into that context. I have always enjoyed all of my tutoring experiences, and I know you will enjoy them, too.
