I will complete a BS degree in Interdisciplinary Studies from Western Governor's University in the fall of 2009 and I will begin student teaching in January of 2010.
Currently, I am completing courses in Classroom Management and Foundations of Teaching. I will become a certified teacher sometime early next year and I will begin teaching kindergarten through eight grade.
I kept children in my home as an in home daycare provider for ten years. These children ranged in ages from infant to ten years old. I enjoyed keeping pre-school aged children and I provided a preschool program for them so that they could begin learning the basics of reading and writing in order to prepare for kindergarten. In high school, I took advanced courses in English and I consider English to be my best subject along with Literature and grammar. I took four years of Spanish in high school and I am confident that I could assist students who are just beginning to grasp the Spanish language.
My teaching style will including teaching the subject matter, but I will also create a fun learning experience through creative activities. Students do not enjoy monotonous reading and writing. Learning must be fun and entertaining as well. I would also like to introduce hands on learning experiences into the curriculum. For example, children can learn about science, but sometimes, it is very beneficial to have objects there to reinforce what is being taught. If a student is learning about the parts of a flower, the teacher should have a flower available so that the student can visually see what is being taught in the lesson plan.
