About Danh H

Danh graduated magna cum laude (3.95 GPA) with a joint degree in Mathematics and Statistics, and a BA in Economics from the University of Rochester. He has conquered thousands of quizzes and tests throughout his educational career, culminating in an efficient dismantling of the PSAT, SAT, and AP exams. He received a 234/240 on the PSAT, ranking him within the top 100 of all students who took that test, a 1540/1600 on the 2004 (old format) SAT, and a 2330/2400 on the current SAT, ranking him in the 99th percentile of the SAT both times he has taken it. He also scored a perfect 5 on 11 AP exams, 3 of which he did not enroll in a class but merely self studied. He is skilled in the methods and techniques to make these beasts tame. His approach is adaptable and can vary from teaching quick test taking improvements to teaching hard-to-digest, more time consuming information.

With his free time, Danh loves to read articles and books to gain knowledge on a wide variety of subjects. He scours the internet for hours to learn in depth about interesting topics and the most efficient ways of doing things. Some of these things include how to guides such as how to remember anything, how to correctly exercise, how to learn languages, while others are topics on health myths. As you can see, Danh is a fitness and nutritional enthusiast, believing in the power of real foods, intermittent intense exercise, and playful sports. Language is another passion of his and he is currently studying Japanese. During breaks he would love to share this information to you!

More On Danh H's Subjects

  • study skills

Having good study skills really boils down to setting up good habits. One important habit I would introduce and reinforce is organization. Growing up, I saw the majority of students shove papers of all subjects into one folder or into a bookbag. Wrinkled and folded papers just do not make it pleasant to review. By making a clean and organized system for all subjects, the student will save time in the long run and study more efficiently. Another important habit to develop is daily repetition and review of material. Cramming never equates to learning in the long run. while I will not be there to impose daily review, a program I have come across is a remarkable learning tool and makes it easy to review everyday which will develop into long term retention. It is called a spaced repetition system. This is essentially an advanced flash card program that decides when the user reviews a particular flashcard, making the easier ones less reviewed and the harder ones looked at more often. Although cramming is something not suggested, there are times it is a more efficient use of your time. I can show the approaches to studying when there is not much time.

  • weightlifting

I first developed my passion for fitness very early in my life during gym class. I loved the calisthenics like jumping jacks, pushups, and situps. It felt good to be able to move freely around. Then a few years later I saw the chiseled body of Bruce Lee and I was hooked. I did pushups and situps every morning and every night to develop strenghth. I obsessed over nutritional labels, assessing the caloric, fat and cholesterol content of foods. As I grew older, I would have certain periods where outdated knowledge was replaced and new knowledge continued. The first was my foray into the use of weights like machines and dumbells. Before I had been doing all bodyweight exercises. Although they were good, they became too easy. In the beginning, I had no knowledge of weightlfiting, so I started reading books to learn about proper technique and the physiological process of muscle building. Unfortunately, traditional schooling interrupted my exercise studies and I stayed stagnant for awhile. It was not until college when I unearthed a wealth of knowledge related to fitness found on the Internet. Understanding that not every thing on the Internet is reputable, I pored hours into reading countless articles and validating the techniques and approaches. There was much unorthodox information that I had to reprogram my conditioned mind into thinking and accepting. Even then my knowledge has still advanced, and it has not been until this past year of reading and studying articles that I have grasped to a satisfactory degree what I feel is proper exercise and nutrition guidelines. There is undoubtedly much more to learn, however, I believe I am more than qualified to get the body prepared and the mind open to this new age of fitness. Some of the things I believe in are unconventional but one of my goals beyond just fitness education is a broad reprogramming of the conditioned mind to not accept everything as fact but to be open to different views.
