Hello. My name is Melissa and I have been teaching Spanish for over ten years to a diverse group of learners, ranging in age from middle school students to adults at the college level who are returning for a second degree or career change. Last year, I lived and worked in Barcelona, Spain. While in Spain I taught English as a second language to young adults and business and medical professionals. I also have extensive experience participating in study abroad programs. Since the summer of 1995 I have successfully completed four overseas programs. I have visited Spain several times and while there I took courses on Spanish history and linguistics, as well as advanced grammar. I also gathered authentic materials for use in the classroom. I hold a master's degree in Foreign Language Education, and I am also New York State certified to teach Spanish - grades 7 through 12. I am also certified to teach English as a Second Language through Oxford Trinity.
My teaching philosophy is rather eclectic, incorporating numerous methods and procedures. I am currently teaching Spanish part - time at the college level. In my classes my students complete a wide range of activities which focus on the essential skills necessary for foreign language acquisition - listening, reading, writing and speaking. The students work individually as well as in small groups. I look forward to working with you.
