Hello there, and thanks for taking the time to check out my page!
Education:
I recently graduated from UCLA with a BA in Political Science and minor in Geography, with a GPA of 3.61, and am now working as a paralegal in Washington, DC. Throughout my undergrad studies, I have successfully completed a sequence of Calculus and Statistics. During high school, I took all Advanced Placement and Honors courses, graduating with a GPA of 4.3. I passed the English Language, US Government, World History, and US History Advanced Placement exams.
Tutoring Experience:
I have extensive experience working with youth groups, from an academic setting to recreation setting. Beginning when I was 16, I have tutored a number of students, including a learning disabled 4th grader successfully in Math, Reading, and general homework assistance. I was part of the California Scholarship Federation, where I tutored advanced students in college prepatory courses such as Algebra, Geometry, and Advanced Composition.
Teaching Style:
I believe that without a strong foundation, it is impossible to succeed in one's studies. That's why before tutoring any student, I make sure they have a strong grasp of the basics. For instance, if my student needed help in 6th grade math, I would give him a brief diagnostic exam to get a sense of where his skills were. From there, I can create a lesson plan that is tailored to his current level, and adjust it as appropriate. Having worked with youth groups and in the service industry for years, I have developed a keen sense of whether or not I'm clicking with the person, so I can adjust my method and try another. I'm extremely patient, but expect the highest standard of work and effort from students. I view smart learning as a two-way street- you only get out what you put in. But sometimes, you need a little help knowing what kind of energy and effort to put in to get the best results. That's where I come in!
