elementary (k-6th)
I am currently an adjunct faculty member with the University of Phoenix. I am approved to teach 19 different courses, two of which are Masters level courses. My teaching experience outside of my home began before any of my formal college education.
Weekly, my children attended a storytelling hour at the local library. Upon arriving one week, there was no storyteller. I decided to not disappoint my own children and the others,so I jumped in and became the storyteller. As time went on the librarian asked many questions. One of the questions was "Why don't you go back to school?". Of course, as with many new families money was tight and I knew that we could not afford it. Needless to say, I was given tools to find the funds and that is the reason I am here today.
I have never lost my love for the idea of teaching children and the joy of seeing their eyes widen at learning new things and having their questions answered. From the days of the library I proceeded to teach in a private school while completing my education. Oftentimes, along with working as a Consultant in my own business I tutor family members and children of my friends when asked to do so.
Of the friends that I tutor for I have asked, "Why do you want me to tutor your child when you have education comparable to what I have?". I was answered with, my child likes you and your patience with them goes much further than I mine. She went on to say, "I am mom and they see me as mom, you can be the friend and teacher/helper". So in essence, I guess that is what I am and will be to those I tutor, the friend/helper/teacher.
