About Regina

I have worked as a propulsion engineer, fire protection engineer and presently work as an environmental engineer in the regulatory/compliance aspect of my work. I am working on my Master's degree in Environmental Engineering and should have that completed by this summer.

I have two boys also attending college who are studying communications and engineering.

I have tutored on an off for over 20 years and enjoy passing on information to students who need help. I enjoy the stewardship in passing on my gifts so others can be successful and have confidence in their school work. I most enjoy tutoring science and math because I always learn from the students as well. I try to help strengthen or stimulate my young students' interest in the subject matter. I try to figure out the individual's learning style and adapt the tutoring so that they understand the subject matter. We try to get a comfort zone where we can talk also about what the person has been up to before we get to tutoring, so it creates a fun environment for learning.

I have kept my boys active in sports, and also am a coach. My youngest son is Nationally distinguished in a sport as well.

I have been very active in the scouting community for 15 years and both of my boys have attained their Eagle.

More On Regina's Subjects

  • elementary (k-6th)

Teaching k-6 is a matter of really getting and maintaining the interest of the young child. It requires a great deal of patience because these kids have pretty short attention spans to begin with, so one has to grab the attention quickly, and continually do things to stimulate the child's interest in the subject area. All kids need praise for work well done and need to keep a structured time and place to do their studies. Kids require structure in time, place, environment etc to be successful in getting their work done, with minimal distraction and they need a parent, sibling or someone to look over their work, so they can get on track quickly, feel the successes of their work and when they feel successful, they don't mind coming back for more, but many elements have to come together for this to happen. I feel that I can provide structure and discipline to empower a student to feel successful in their work. I am patient and connect well with people, I would be an excellent choice to help you with k-6 any subject.

  • sewing

I have made my own clothes from patterns and have designed ice skating costumes. I have modified several patterns to make all of my sisters' wedding gowns and all the bridesmaids gowns. I used to make childrens clothes from patterns or mixed and matched patterns and ideas since sometimes I like the look of one thing mixed with another idea. I like to crochet and make quilts. I used to make quilts by hand, and now just use the sewing machine. My favorites are crocheting and embroidery even though I like all kinds of needle craft like cross stitch, plastic canvas, counted cross stitch. I have books to share, as well as embroidery floss. Sewing is a good hobby to keep your hands busy and help with eye hand coordination and teaches patience. I have taught both my boys to do simple sewing to take up hems, sew on buttons, patches and and put seams back together. I can teach simple sewing skills, but design would be much harder to teach as it is more related to a person's creativity.
