More On Christine's Subjects

  • elementary (k-6th)

I have been a classroom teacher for fifteen years. I have also served as a tutor for all fifteen of those years. In the classroom, I have served students in grades kindergarten to grade three and as a tutor, I have served students in grades kindergarten to grade nine. I am certified as an elementary educator in the state of Texas and am additionally certified to teach early childhood classes, early childhood classes for students with disabilities, students who are identified as gifted and talented, and am a certified bilingual/E.S.L. teacher who holds a master's degree in bilingual education from Southern Methodist University. I am a strong reading and mathematics teacher, very strong at developing writing skills, and exceptional at helping a student develop a rich academic vocabulary and deep understanding of the underlying abstract concepts I teach to my clients. I am a fluent bilingual individual who can read, write, and speak both English and Spanish very well. As a tutor, I always ensure that I assess a student's needs up front and that I am in close communication with the teacher of record for that student to ensure that my sessions with the student enhance and enrich what happens in the classroom during the day. I also provide regular assessments that update a student's progress to parents and provide a debriefing after each tutoring session to ensure that the parents are kept abreast of the progress of their student and celebrations seen during the session. Most of my tutoring clients in the past are a direct result of referrals from satisfied clientele or from teachers who recommended me to the families I have had the privilege to serve. I look forward to being of service to your student in the future.

  • ESL/ESOL

I hold a master's degree in bilingual education and am well versed in the methodologies and processes involved in serving students who request English as a Second Language services. Additionally, as a bilingual classroom teacher, I put those methodologies and processes into daily practice with the students in my classroom during the day and have experienced great success in developing individuals who are well versed in not only the informal vocabulary that is a part of the English language but also acquire a deep academic vocabulary and are able to discuss academic content at a deep and rich level.
