About Matthew:

I want you to know that I plan on teaching. I am using my time to tutor and substitute teach to make sure that this is what I would like to do the rest of my life. Currently, a lot of people reject the tutors you pay for at Friends (this is my last semester there)and sit and talk with me in the Campus Ministries Lounge about their classes. This has proved to be a better, more relaxed tutoring session. It is not perfect and some people need a more strict tutoring environment. I have helped those students in the library. For most college students, though, I have found that a relaxed chat style over Starbucks seems to help the material resonate better. Those i have helped have also told me that they are able to apply the knowledge better this way. We try it and if it works fantastic, if not we change it accordingly.

More On Matthew's Subjects:

  • Bible studies

Biblical studies always a difficult task to pursue. That is quite possibly why my approach to it, via history has been such an advantage. I am a fan of history and have used it in my BIblical Study experience. These names may ring a bell to you, good. They have made an impact in our understanding of the Bible. They may not, unless you are a ible Scholar they may not be widely known enough for you. I have done expositions on Martin Luther, Karl Barth, John Calvin, Gordon Fee, Dietrich Bonhoeffer, and Paul Tillich among others. My Professor of Bible believed in a diverse selection of commentary. What some may view as outdated, a view as a classical approach. The problem with historical study is that it has a tendency to miscount recent revelations, this is where recent study (which I have also done) can succeed.

  • religion

I am not sure if it is a desire to be more knowledgeable about my own faith, though perhaps my Catholic, Eastern Orthodox, and Hindu friends had some influence on my desire to study all other religions. Most of what we think we know about other religions is an exaggerated statement, or sometimes completely false. Given the opportunity we can discover the truth together. We can indulge ourselves right into the texts and traditions. Sources of information need to be evaluated so that misinformation is not passed on.
