About Sarah:

I am an Ohio licensed teacher who is taking some time off from the classroom to stay at home with my two young children (ages 3 and 3 months). I am considered a "highly qualified teacher" due to my passage of the Praxis III exam required of all new teachers in the state of Ohio. Tutoring is a great way for me to get my "teacher fix" and still be able to be with my children during the day. I have a variety of teacher created materials that I used for instruction in the classroom that would be great tools for individualized practice in subjects such as language arts and math. These materials are created to be more like games in order to keep the child interested and to get the practice they need at the same time. When I was in the classroom, I sent these materials home with students who needed extra help and spent time after school to enhance their skills.

More On Sarah's Subjects:

  • elementary (k-6th)

I am an Ohio licensed teacher with a bachelor's degree in Early Childhood Education. That means that I am certified to teach grades Prek-3 in any school in Ohio and for all traditional subjects. I recently passed the Praxis III examination in Ohio that is required of all recent graduates and am seen as a "highly qualified teacher". I have taught in a variety of classrooms, including intervention and special needs for grades preschool through grade 3. I have also acted as a substitute in grades 4 and 5. During the 2006-2007 school year, I was a long term substitute teacher for a fifth grade class. Last school year, I was a full-time teacher for preschool. I designed a new curriculum for this class and helped the school to become an Ohio licensed operational preschool.

  • phonics

As an Ohio licensed Early Childhood Educator, I have had an in-depth education in language arts, including phonics. In addition to my degree, I have a Reading credential that states that I have had extra education through my college courses in Reading instruction. Language arts in one of the most important aspects of early childhood education because this is the time when children learn to read and write. Phonics is a very important part in the process of learning to read. Being able to identify sounds that letters make and how they work together to make new sounds is a very important part of reading. I have used a variety of phonics activities in my classrooms, including teacher created materials for centers and individualized activities for more one-on-one instruction.

  • piano

As a child, I had private piano lessons for a total of eight years. In college, I took additional classes in piano and music. I currently have a player piano in my home in which I play as often as I can. My three year old daughter is very interested in learning to play and I am teaching her the fundamentals of piano.
