About Samuel

Hello Potential Student!

My name is Samuel. I am a music student at Gordon College in Wenham, MA. I have been playing piano since I was 6 and I have been playing organ since I was 14. I have been organist at Washington Street Baptist Church in Lynn since 2002. I also have played at various churches in the area. I was part-time organist at Sacred Heart Church in Lynn from 2006-2007. I also am a substitute organist at Park Street Church in Boston. I have studied piano with Larry Kamp of Lynn. My organ studies have been with Larry Kamp, Roy Brunner of Gordon College, Doug Marshall of Needham (student of Virgil Fox), Cameron Carpenter (Julliard) of New York City, and Miles Fusco (Julliard) of New York City.

At Gordon, I have completed all four years of Music Theory as well as Ear Training/Sight Singing.

I have about 6 months experience with teaching beginner piano students, all of which are coming along very quickly.

I help lead the youth group at Washington Street Baptist Church and am a very friendly guy. Every question is a good question and I want to make you into the best musician you can be! I hope I can help you in your musical adventure.

More On Samuel's Subjects

  • ear training

I have taken four semesters of Ear Training at Gordon College and received A's in all four semesters. These classes involved dictation (rhythmic and tonal), identifying chord progressions, and listening to great works of music to find different themes and rythmic sequences.

  • piano

I have been studying keyboards since I was 6 and have excelled greatly. In college, I have received A's on all of my organ juries (4 so far).

  • sight singing

I have taken all 4 years of sight signing at Gordon College and received A's. This class involved sight singing single lines of music, any voice part of a hymn (SATB), and singing chords after hearing "do." Like any sight-singing class, we learned solfege. Gordon College uses "movable do" which means that "do" is the tonic of whatever key you are singing in.

  • voice (music)

I have been in choirs my entire life. I sang in the Gordon College Choir for the last 2 years. I also help direct the choir at my church and help beginner soloists with basic singing technique.
