I am also a writer and am now in the process of publishing my recently completed travel and spiritual journey memoir. My Master's thesis was a qualitative study around one person's difficulties in learning English as a third language.

  I began my own Chinese study in the Defense Language Institute and continued it with a Bachelor's degree in Chinese at the University of Minnesota. I then traveled to Hong Kong, Taiwan, and China and moved to Taipei, Taiwan, Republic of China to live and work. In all, I lived in Taipei for 8 years, learning, practicing, and speaking Chinese for all of that AND an additional 8 years in daily life in the U.S. As an American and native English speaker, my own Chinese is "Advanced" but not "perfect". I am very effective as an instructor and tutor and consultant for beginning and intermediate level learners and clients because I can explain and express Chinese language and culture in ways that native Chinese speakers cannot. I am an experienced langugae instructor with a unique understanding of language teaching and learning. I can teach Mandarin Chinese and Chinese character recognition and writing skills.

  Experience, skills, and other credentials I have over 10 years of experience teaching English to speakers of other languages. I researched and wrote my Master's thesis/research project on Difficulties in Learning English as a Second or Foreign Language to find out why an adult woman from Taiwan did not make significant progress in her overall English ability after living 8 years in the U.S. I have also studied foreign languages including Spanish, Norwegian, Japanese, and Chinese to various levels and understand the language learning process and journey. I like to encourage learners to expand their learning and their thinking as well as their exposure to the target language.
