A good tutor helps students build on what they already know - it's all about showing them connections where they didn't see any before. As a professional journalist, I specialize in making connections, creating a narrative out of disjointed facts. I have a master's degree from Columbia University and have written for some of the biggest newspapers in the country, as well as for various regional and national magazines. I've taught writing to college journalists and high school students and have a stellar background in proofreading and grammar. My journalism experience, including reporting in Washington, D.C., has also given me a strong command of government and politics. I have a degree in history from Dartmouth College and can show students that the subject is about a lot more than memorizing names and dates. Finally, I've studied French and Latin for many years and hope to convey my passion for both languages to students. Learning languages isn't just a matter of vocabulary and grammar drills - it happens best when students feel at ease and excited about a new world opening up to them.
