Greetings Everyone!!
My name is Easton. Let me begin by expounding on my profile title. I am an enthusiastic individual with a passion for learning and teaching others. I have an exceptional work ethic and a strong appetite for helping others. Not only do I love to learn, but I also love to educate and equip others with the skills (academic, social, and cultural) that they will need to succeed in life. I am a young adult with a passion for education. While many put the emphasis on the importance of who you know, I believe that WHAT you know is also very important. My philosophy is simple; "who you know" is likely to get your foot in the door, but "what you know" will prove to open many more doors, creating opportunities for success and great achievement. It is my desire to use my knowledge in subjects such as English (grammar), literature and U.S. history, to help the advancement of others.
I graduated from Drexel University, located in Philadelphia, PA in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in History and Politics. As a college student, I was a part of an effort to assist inner city school students with basic literacy skills in the city of Philadelphia. This program was known as "Philadelphia READS." I was also an active member of tutors at my local church, where neighborhood youth gathered on a weekly basis to obtain assistance from educators of our church.
As a tutor, I believe that it is important to understand the learning styles of each student. I adopt my teaching style to best fit the learning style of each student. I recognize that some students are more visual than others, while there are students who may retain information better if the facts are given in a "lecture" type fashion. A learning assessment is necessary before each series of tutoring sessions begin. I believe that this is necessary in order to maximize on the time dedicated for tutoring, as this will assist both the tutor and the student in determining which teaching style will be most effective.
I have a wealth of knowledge as it relates to working with children. Working with children and young teens is a privilege, as they are tomorrow's leaders and must be educated as such. I make a commitment to interact with children in a caring and sensitive manner; always keeping in mind the way that I would expect one to interact with my own child, as I too am a parent.
I am excited about the prospect of assisting others in their education and look forward to tutoring the today's youth...tomorrow's leaders!
