I am a retired professional English and ESL teacher with over 30 years experience working with adult and young adult students in many settings, both in the States and abroad. I have taught in many environments from academic to business. I have helped thousands of students improve both their English and critical thinking skills. I have an M.A. in teaching English, and have also trained new teachers. I have also helped students with their writing, whether a dissertation or a professional article. I am organized, serious, capable of creating learning materials as needed, with a clear non-accented speaking voice.   I am abundantly qualified to teach or tutor in ESL since my M.A. is in Teaching TEFL and I have 30 years direct experience in ESL/EFL classes. In California, an M.A. automatically grants you a lifetime teaching credential in the community college system, which I have. I have taught both overseas and in California, to adults and young adults, as well as new EFL teachers. I have taught in many environments, from college and university, to corporate and business settings, non-profit organizations, and in adult education classes. I have done private tutoring as well. I have also assisted colleagues with textbook preparation and prepared my own teaching materials for academic, business, and job-training subjects. Finally, I have conducted classes at every level, from true beginner to highly advanced; my speciality is grammar and writing, though I am also experienced in all skills, including phonology and pronunciation.

  I am a long-experienced professional English/ESL instructor for adult and young adult students. During my years of classroom and tutoring experience, I have often needed to assist students in improving their study skills: this means their ability to think critically, reason logically, organize their study behaviors, learn how to research and evaluate information, how to write properly formatted formal academic papers, how to ask appropriate questions and listen carefully to answers, and how to prepare for exams. All of these are part of "study skills" and every professional teacher helps their students with these daily. Study skills also often include the ability to read for general ideas and information, to spell correctly and learn the general phonics framework of English, to use a dictionary and other reference books, to edit and proofread their writing, and to use their textbook correctly. I have helped students in all these respects for many years.
